Online speedcubing

Battle real cubers with your own 3×3.

SolveOffs puts you head to head with other speedcubers on the same scramble. Your phone’s camera checks your cube before and after every solve, and ranked matches pair you with cubers at your level. No smart cube needed: the regular 3×3 you already own is all it takes.

Every way to race

Climb the ranks, settle it with a friend, or take on today’s scramble. Everything runs on the cube in your hands.

Ranked matchmaking

Search and get matched with a cuber close to your Elo rating. Win to climb from Bronze to Master. If nobody is free within about 30 seconds, you race a real player’s recorded, camera-verified solve on the same scramble instead.

Friend battles

Add friends by their @username and challenge them to a live 1v1 on one shared scramble. Lost by a hair? Ask for a rematch in one tap.

Daily Battle Challenge

One scramble a day, the same for everyone. You get one verified attempt, then see where you rank on the day’s leaderboard.

Solo levels

Fifteen levels against bots, each with a time to beat, plus Random Scramble practice whenever you like.

Your cube, verified

Every battle follows the same five steps, so every time on the board is a real solve on the real scramble.

  1. ScrambleFollow the moves on screen, white on top and green in front.
  2. Show the white faceThe camera checks that your cube matches the scramble.
  3. Inspect15 seconds. Turn the whole cube freely, but don’t turn a layer.
  4. SolveThe timer starts after 3, 2, 1. Tap the screen to stop it.
  5. Show 4 solved facesThe camera verifies your solve, and your time counts.

What the camera does: it reads the colours of your cube’s stickers on your phone, in memory, while you’re in a battle. No photo or video is recorded, saved or uploaded. Verification is automatic and helps keep battles fair, but no automated check is perfect: it can’t catch every kind of cheating and may occasionally misread a cube. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

No smart cube needed

Bluetooth cubes are great, but you don’t need one. SolveOffs reads a standard-colour 3×3 (white, yellow, red, orange, blue and green) through your phone’s camera, so you play with the cube you already practise on.

Fair by design

Both players get the same scramble from our server, the server sets the official start, and the server decides the result and any rating change. Your solve only counts once the camera has verified it.

Questions

Is SolveOffs free?

Yes. There are no purchases, subscriptions or ads in the app.

Which devices does it run on?

SolveOffs is an iPhone app. It’s coming soon to the App Store.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Your account gives you a unique @username, keeps your rating and lets friends find you. You can delete it at any time in the app, under Profile → Account & privacy → Delete account.

Does the camera record me?

No. The camera is used only during battles, and the picture is analysed on your phone to read your cube’s colours. Nothing from the camera is recorded or sent to us. In online battles and the Daily Challenge we only receive results, like your solve time and the colours of the solved faces that were verified.

Is my opponent always a live player?

In friend battles, yes. In ranked, you’re matched with a live player whenever one is available near your rating. If nobody is free within about 30 seconds, you race a recorded, camera-verified solve by a real player from an earlier ranked match, on the same scramble. Your rating changes the same way.

Can people cheat?

Camera verification makes cheating harder, but no system is cheat-proof. Report a player from their name or from the battle result and we’ll look into it. Breaking the fair-play rules in our Terms can get results removed or an account suspended.

Is SolveOffs connected to the WCA?

No. SolveOffs is an independent app. It isn’t affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the World Cube Association or the owners of the Rubik’s brand, and results in SolveOffs are not official records.
